Daomin XR 1000

Presentation:Each extended-release tablet contains 1000 mg of metformin hydrochloride.The tablets are typically white to off-white, oblong shaped, and film-coated. Available in blister packs.  

Indications:Daomin XR (metformin hydrochloride) is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients, when dietary management and exercise alone does not result in adequate glycemiccontrol.  

• In adults:  It may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or with insulin. 
• In children from 10 years of age and adolescents:  It may be used as monotherapy or in combination with insulin.A reduction of diabetic complications has been shown in overweight type 2 diabetic adult patients treated with metformin as first-line therapy after diet failure.  

Dosage and Administration:Daomin XR 1000 tablet should be swallowed whole and never crushed, cut, or chewed.It is usually taken once daily with the evening meal.

• Adults: The usual starting dose of Metformin XR is 500 mg once daily with the evening meal. The dose may be increased in increments of 500 mg weekly, up to a maximum of 2000 mg once daily with the evening meal.Alternatively, the dose may be increased to 1000 mg twice daily taken with meals. Patients receiving immediate-release metformin tablets may be switched to extended-release tablets up to the maximum recommended daily dose.
• Children (from 10 years of age and adolescents): The usual starting dose is 500 mg once daily with the evening meal. The dose may be increased in increments of 500 mg weekly, up to a maximum daily dose of 2000 mg once daily.
• Renal Impairment:Metformin is contraindicated in patients with an eGFR below 30 mL/min/1.73 m².Assess the risk/benefit of continuing if eGFR falls below 45 mL/min/1.73 m².

Side Effects:Very common side effects include gastrointestinal disorders such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite, especially at the beginning of therapy.These usually resolve spontaneously. Common side effect is taste disturbance.Very rare side effects include lactic acidosis, decrease of vitamin B12 absorption with a decrease of serum levels during long-term use, liver function test abnormalities or hepatitis, and skin reactions like erythema, pruritus, and urticaria.

Precautions: Daomin XR is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to metformin, any type of acute metabolic acidosis, severe renal failure (eGFR < 30 mL/min), acute conditions with the potential to alter renal function(such as dehydration, severe infection, shock), and acute or chronic disease which may cause tissue hypoxia (such as cardiac or respiratory failure, recent myocardial infarction, shock), hepaticinsufficiency, acute alcohol intoxication,and alcoholism. Use with caution in patients with eGFR between 30-45 mL/min and conditions that may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Metformin may lower vitamin B12 levels during long-term use.Alcohol may potentiate the effect of metformin on lactate metabolism.  

Storage:Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture.Keep out of reach of children.
