Deflacort 24

Presentation: Each tablet of Deflacort 24 contains 24 mg of deflazacort. 

Indications: Deflacort (deflazacort) is a corticosteroid indicated for the treatment of a wide range of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, including:

• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Juvenile chronic arthritis
• Polymyalgia rheumatica
• Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
• Asthma
• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations
• Allergic reactions
• Inflammatory skin conditions
• Nephrotic syndrome
• Certain hematological disorders
• Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD)

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Deflacort varies depending on the condition being treated and the patient's response. It is crucial to follow the doctor's specific instructions. The tablets are usually taken orally, with or without food. The initial dose may range from 6 mg to 90 mg per day. In children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the usual dose is 0.9 mg/kg/day. The doctor will determine the appropriate starting dose and adjust it as needed based on the clinical response. It is important not to stop taking Deflacort abruptly without consulting your doctor, as the dose may need to be reduced gradually.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include increased appetite, weight gain, fluid retention, mood changes, trouble sleeping, increased blood sugar, and increased blood pressure. Long-term use may lead to more serious side effects such as osteoporosis, muscle weakness, increased risk of infection, glaucoma, cataracts, and adrenal suppression. Deflazacort is often associated with a lower risk of bone loss compared to some other corticosteroids.

Precautions: Deflacort is contraindicated in patients with systemic fungal infections and known hypersensitivity to deflazacort or any of its components. Caution should be exercised in patients with diabetes mellitus, heart failure, high blood pressure, kidney disease, liver disease, osteoporosis, peptic ulcer, glaucoma, and certain infections. Live vaccines should not be given to patients receiving immunosuppressive doses of corticosteroids.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
