Delpraz 60 

Presentation:Each capsule contains Dexlansoprazole INN 60 mg.Delpraz 60 is a product of Sun Pharmaceutical (Bangladesh) Ltd.and is usually available in blister packs. The capsule contains modified-release granules, providing a dual release of the active ingredient.  

Indications: Delpraz (Dexlansoprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) indicated for the treatment of:

• Healing of erosive esophagitis (EE) for all grades of severity.
• Maintaining healing of EE and relief of heartburn.
• Symptomatic gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Dosage and Administration: Delpraz 60 capsules should be swallowed whole and can be taken with or without food.

• Healing of Erosive Esophagitis: The recommended adult dose is 60 mg once daily for 8 weeks. For patients who do not heal after 8 weeks, an additional 8-week course of Delpraz 60 mg may be considered.
• Maintenance of Healed Erosive Esophagitis and Relief of Heartburn: The recommended adult dose is 30 mg once daily. Controlled studies did not extend beyond 6 months.
• Symptomatic GERD: The recommended adult dose is 30 mg once daily for 4 weeks.

No dosage adjustment is generally required for elderly patients or patients with mild hepatic impairment. A maximum daily dose of 30 mg should be considered for patients with moderate hepatic impairment. Delpraz has not been studied in patients with severe hepatic impairment. No dosage adjustment is generally required for patients with renal impairment.

Side Effects: Common side effects of Delpraz (Dexlansoprazole) may include:

• Diarrhoea
• Abdominal pain
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Flatulence
• Headache

Less common side effects may include dizziness, insomnia, dry mouth, and skin rash. As with other PPIs, long-term use may potentially lead to vitamin B12 deficiency, hypomagnesaemia, and an increased risk of bone fractures.

Precautions: Delpraz (Dexlansoprazole) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation. Before initiating therapy, gastric malignancy should be excluded. Caution should be exercised when prescribing Delpraz to patients with severe hepatic impairment.

Dexlansoprazole can interact with other drugs that are dependent on gastric pH for absorption, such as ketoconazole and digoxin. It may also affect the metabolism of certain drugs metabolized by CYP2C19. Concomitant use with warfarin should be monitored due to the potential for increased INR and prothrombin time.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Dexlansoprazole should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus. It is not known whetherdexlansoprazole is excreted in human milk. A decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importanceof the drug to the mother.  

Storage:   Store below 30°C, protected from moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
