Dementa XR 7

Presentation: Each extended-release capsule contains Memantine Hydrochloride 7 mg. 

Indications:Dementa XR (extended-release Memantine) is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe dementia of the Alzheimer's type.  

Dosage and Administration:

• The recommended starting doseis 7 mg once daily.
• The dose should be increased in 7 mg increments to the recommended maintenance dose of 28 mg once daily.
• The minimum interval between dose increases is one week. 
• The 28 mg daily dose is reached by following this titration schedule:
  • Week 1: 7 mg once daily
  • Week 2: 14 mg once daily
  • Week 3: 21 mg once daily
  • Week 4 onwards: 28 mg once daily
• Dementa XR capsules should be swallowed whole and should not be chewed, crushed, or divided.
• It can be taken with or without food.  

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Dizziness
• Headache
• Confusion
• Constipation

Less common side effects may include:

• Somnolence (sleepiness)
• Hypertension (high blood pressure)
• Vomiting
• Balance disorder
• Abnormal gait

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, as the dosage may need to be adjusted.
• Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures.
• There may be an increased risk of QT prolongation in patients with certain heart conditions or who are taking other medications that prolong the QT interval.
• The safety of Dementa XR during pregnancy has not been fully established. It should only be used if the potential benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus. Consult your doctor before use.
• It is not known if Memantine passes into breast milk. Caution should be exercised when Dementa XR is administered to a breastfeeding woman.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
