Depomed 8 (Tablet)

Presentation: Each film-coated tablet contains Methylprednisolone USP 8 mg. Available in strips.

Indications: Depomed 8 is a corticosteroid indicated for the treatment of a wide variety of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, including:

• Severe allergic conditions
• Asthma
• Rheumatic disorders (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis)
• Skin disorders (e.g., eczema, psoriasis)
• Eye disorders (e.g., allergic conjunctivitis, keratitis)
• Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)
• Nephrotic syndrome
• Certain endocrine disorders
• Gastrointestinal diseases (e.g., ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease)
• Acute exacerbations of multiple sclerosis

Dosage and Administration: The initial dosage may vary from 4 mg to 48 mg per day depending on the specific disease being treated. In less severe conditions, lower doses may suffice, while higher initial doses may be required in selected patients. The initial dosage should be maintained or adjusted until a satisfactory response is noted. If a satisfactory clinical response is not achieved after a reasonable period, Depomed 8 should be discontinued, and the patient transferred to other appropriate therapy. Dosage requirements are variable and must be individualized¹based on the disease and the patient's response. After a favorable response is noted, the maintenance dosage should be determined by gradually reducing the initial dose to the lowest effective dose. It is recommended to take this medication with food to avoid stomach upset. Follow the physician's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include increased appetite, weight gain, fluid retention, mood changes, headache, dizziness, nausea, and thinning of the skin. Long-term use may lead to more serious side effects such as increased risk of infection, reduction in bone density, high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, cataracts, and muscle weakness.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with systemic fungal infections and known hypersensitivity to methylprednisolone or any other ingredients in the formulation. Use with caution in patients with heart failure, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, gastrointestinal diseases (e.g., peptic ulcer, diverticulitis), osteoporosis, and myasthenia gravis. Inform your doctor if you have any signs of infection. Avoid live vaccinations while taking this medication. Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding should be under careful medical consideration.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
