Dexoride IV 1000ml

Presentation: Dexoride IV 1000ml is a sterile intravenous solution containing Dextrose Monohydrate BP [Specify the percentage, e.g., 5% or 10% w/v] in Water for Injection BP. It is available in a 1000ml flexible plastic bag or glass bottle, manufactured by [Specify the local manufacturer in Bangladesh, e.g., Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd.]. The solution is clear and colorless.

Indications: Dexoride IV infusion is indicated for:

  • Fluid replacement and maintenance therapy when water and carbohydrate (glucose) are required.
  • Treatment of dehydration.
  • As a source of calories.
  • Vehicle for the intravenous administration of compatible medications.
  • Treatment of hypoglycemia (depending on the concentration).

Dosage and Administration: This solution is for intravenous administration only and should be administered by a healthcare professional. The dosage, rate, and duration of infusion depend on the patient's age, weight, clinical condition, fluid and electrolyte balance, and concomitant therapy. It should be administered using sterile equipment and aseptic technique. Frequent monitoring of the patient's clinical status and laboratory values, including blood glucose and electrolytes, is essential.

Side Effects: Potential side effects related to the solution or the administration technique include:

  • Hyperglycemia (high blood sugar levels), especially in patients with diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance.
  • Fluid overload (hypervolemia), especially with rapid or excessive infusion.
  • Electrolyte imbalances, including hypokalemia (low potassium levels), hyponatremia (low sodium levels), and hypophosphatemia (low phosphate levels), particularly with prolonged use of dextrose solutions without adequate electrolyte supplementation.
  • Local reactions at the infusion site such as pain, infection, phlebitis (vein inflammation), or thrombosis (blood clot).
  • Febrile response (fever).

Precautions: Dexoride IV infusion is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to dextrose, severe hyperglycemia, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, and conditions where fluid overload should be avoided (e.g., severe heart failure, pulmonary edema). Caution should be exercised in patients with diabetes mellitus, cardiac or renal insufficiency, and in elderly or debilitated patients. Monitor blood glucose levels regularly, especially in diabetic patients. Ensure adequate electrolyte supplementation, particularly with prolonged use. The compatibility of any additive medication with Dexoride IV should be assessed before use.

Storage: Store the intravenous solution according to the manufacturer's instructions, typically at room temperature (below 30°C). Do not use if the solution is cloudy, contains particulate matter, or if the bag or bottle is damaged. Keep out of reach of children.
