Diablo 500 (Tablet)

Presentation: Each tablet contains Metformin Hydrochloride BP 500 mg. Available in strips.

Indications: Diablo is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or with insulin.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose is 500 mg once or twice daily with meals. Dosage may be increased gradually in increments of 500 mg weekly based on glycemic control and tolerability, up to a maximum of 2000 mg per day in divided doses. Swallow tablets whole with water; do not crush or chew. Follow the physician's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, flatulence, and abdominal discomfort. These side effects are often transient and may decrease over time. Less common side effects include headache and metallic taste. Rarely, a serious side effect called lactic acidosis can occur. Symptoms of lactic acidosis include unusual muscle pain, trouble breathing, stomach pain, dizziness, feeling cold, and feeling very weak or tired. Long-term use may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), metabolic acidosis, or diabetic ketoacidosis. Not recommended to initiate treatment in patients with eGFR between 30-45 mL/min/1.73 m². Use with caution in patients with moderate renal impairment, heart failure, liver disease, and in elderly individuals. Temporary discontinuation may be required before certain surgical or radiological procedures involving iodinated contrast media. Avoid excessive alcohol intake.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
