Diacana

Presentation: Tablets containing 100 mg canagliflozin.

Indications: Indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.  

Dosage and Administration:The recommended starting dose is 100 mg once daily, taken before the first meal of theday. The dose may be increased to 300 mg once daily in patients with eGFR > 60 mL/min/1.73 m² who require additional glycemic control. Dosage adjustments are needed for moderate renal impairment (eGFR 45-60 mL/min/1.73 m²), with a maximum dose of 100 mg once daily. Not recommended for use in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), end-stage renal disease, or those on dialysis. Follow physician's instructions.

Side Effects: Common side effects include female genital mycotic infections, urinary tract infections, and increased urination. Other potential side effects include low blood pressure, increased potassium levels, low blood glucose (when used with other antidiabetic agents), and increased LDL cholesterol.

Precautions: Not for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis. May cause dehydration; ensure adequate fluid intake. Use with caution in patients with moderate renal impairment and those at risk of volume depletion. Monitor potassium levels and for signs of hypoglycemia when used with insulin or sulfonylureas. An increased risk of bone fracture has been reported.

Storage: Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
