Diamicron MR 30 

Presentation:Diamicron MR 30 Tablet, available in Bangladesh, contains Gliclazide 30 mgin a modified-release (MR) formulation.It is presented as a white, oblong, scored tablet for oral administration, typically supplied in blister packs. The "MR" designation indicates a gradual release of the active ingredient.

Indications:Diamicron MR is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitusin adults when diet, exercise, and weight reduction alone are not adequate to achieve glycemic control.  

Dosage and Administration: The usual initial dose is 30 mg once daily, taken orally with breakfast. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed.Dosage adjustments are made based on blood glucose response, usually in increments of 30 mg at monthly intervals, up to a maximum of 120 mg once daily.In some cases, a higher dose may necessitate twice-daily administration under medical supervision.

Side Effects: The most common adverse reaction is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Symptoms may include headache, dizziness, sweating, weakness, tremor, and confusion. Gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may occur.Less frequent side effects include skin reactions (rash, pruritus, urticaria) and hematological changes (e.g., thrombocytopenia, leukopenia). Elevated liver enzymes may occur rarely.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to gliclazide or other sulfonylureas, type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal or hepatic impairment, and during breastfeeding. Not recommended during pregnancy. Caution should be exercised in patients with moderate renal or hepatic impairment, elderly individuals, malnutrition, or conditions predisposing to hypoglycemia.Alcohol consumption should be avoided. Interactions with other medications affecting blood glucose levels should be considered.
