Presentation:Diatrol MR 30 is a modified-release tablet containing Gliclazide 30 mg as the active pharmaceutical ingredient. It is usually available in blister packs. The modified-release formulation allows for a once-daily dosage.
Indications:Diatrol MR 30 is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and weight reduction alone have not been adequate in controlling blood glucose levels.Gliclazide is a sulfonylurea that works by increasing the release of insulin from the beta cells of the pancreas and by reducing glucose production in the liver.
Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Diatrol MR 30 should be determined by the physician based on the individual patient's blood glucose levels. The usual starting dose is 30 mg once daily. The dose may be increased gradually, usually at intervals of at least 2 weeks, to achieve adequate glycemic control. The maximum recommended daily dose depends on the individual response and is typically up to 120 mg once daily. Diatrol MR 30 should be taken orally once daily at breakfast time. The tablet should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed. It is important to eat regular meals while taking this medication.
Side Effects:The most common side effect of Diatrol MR 30 is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which can occur if meals are skipped, during excessive exercise, or when used with other antidiabetic agents.Symptoms of hypoglycemia may include sweating, tremor, anxiety, confusion, dizziness, and palpitations.Other possible side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.Skin reactions like rash, itching, and hives may also occur.Rarely, liver function abnormalities and blood disorders have been reported.
Precautions:Diatrol MR 30 is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal or hepatic impairment, and known hypersensitivity to gliclazide or other sulfonylureas. It should be used with caution in elderly patients, those with malnutrition, and those with adrenal or pituitary insufficiency, as they may be more susceptible to hypoglycemia. Alcohol consumption should be avoided or minimized as it can affect blood glucose levels.Certain medications can interact with gliclazide, potentially increasing or decreasing its blood glucose-lowering effect.Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking.
Storage:Store Diatrol MR 30 tablets below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light.Keep out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
