Dicaltrol Plus 

Presentation: Each tablet contains Calcium Citrate USP 1200 mg (equivalent to elemental Calcium 252 mg) and Calcitriol EP 0.25 mcg. It is available in strips and boxes.

Indications: Dicaltrol Plus is used to prevent or treat low blood calcium levels in individuals who do not get enough calcium from their diet. It may be used for conditions caused by low calcium levels such as:  

• Bone loss (osteoporosis) 
• Weak bones (osteomalacia, rickets) 
• Decreased activityof the parathyroid gland (hypoparathyroidism) 
• Acertain muscle disease (latent tetany)
• Ensuring adequate calcium intake in certain patients (e.g., postmenopausal women)

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose is 1 to 4 tablets daily, with or without food, depending on the clinical situation or as directed by a registered physician.

Side Effects: The side effects of Dicaltrol Plus may include:

• Constipation
• Nausea
• Abdominal pain
• Hypercalcemia (high calcium levels in the blood)
• Hypercalciuria (high levels of calcium in the urine)
• Headache
• Muscle weakness

Precautions: Dicaltrol Plus is contraindicated in patients with hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria, and hypophosphatemia. Caution should be taken in patients with malabsorption syndrome, heart disease, kidney disease, kidney stones, certain immune system disorders (sarcoidosis), liver disease, and certain bowel diseases (Crohn's disease).

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Dicaltrol Plus should be used during pregnancy and lactation only as directed by a registered physician (Pregnancy Category C).

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
