Dilitus 0.2 

Presentation: Each tablet contains Voglibose INN 0.2 mg. Available in strips of 10 tablets, with each box usually containing 3 such strips.

Indications: Dilitus is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor indicated for:

• Non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) patients as monotherapy.
• In combination with other oral hypoglycemic agents.
• As an adjunct to insulin in diabetes mellitus patients.
• Prevention of the onset of type 2 diabetes mellitus in individuals with impaired glucose tolerance.
• Management of hypoglycemia in patients with type 1b glycogen storage disease.
• Preventing hypoglycemic attacks in non-diabetic hyperinsulinemia.

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose is 0.2 mg orally three times a day, taken immediately before each meal. If the effect is insufficient, the single dose may be increased to 0.3 mg. The safety and effectiveness in children have not been established. In elderly patients, a lower starting dose (e.g., 0.1 mg per dose) may be considered with careful monitoring.

Side Effects: Unlike some other antidiabetic drugs, an overdose of Voglibose (the active ingredient in Dilitus) is unlikely to cause hypoglycemia. However, it may lead to transient increases in flatulence, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. Other potential side effects may include loose stools, abdominal pain, constipation, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, and increased intestinal gas, which can sometimes present as symptoms similar to intestinal obstruction.

Precautions: Dilitus should be limited to patients with established diabetes. It should be used with caution in patients:

• Receiving other antidiabetic drugs, as it may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when combined (though Voglibose alone rarely causes it).
• With a history of laparotomy or ileus, as increased intestinal gas may worsen their condition.
• With chronic intestinal diseases affecting digestion and absorption.
• With Roemheld's syndrome, severe hernia, stenosis, or ulceration of the large intestine, as their symptoms may worsen due to increased intestinal gas.
• With serious hepatic or renal dysfunction, as metabolic conditions may be altered.
• Elderly patients may be more susceptible to gastrointestinal side effects.

Dilitus is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Voglibose or any other components of the tablet.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
