Dulox 30

Presentation: Each enteric-coated capsule contains Duloxetine Hydrochloride equivalent to Duloxetine 30 mg. Capsules are typically available in blister packs or strips. The enteric coating helps to prevent dissolution in the stomach, as duloxetine is acid-labile.

Indications: Dulox is indicated for the treatment of:  

• Major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. 
• Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in adults and pediatric patients 7 to 17 years of age.
• Diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP) in adults.
• Chronic musculoskeletal pain in adults.
• Fibromyalgia in adults.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose for major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder in adults is 40 mg per day (given as 20 mg twice daily) or 60 mg once daily. The dose may be increased by the physician based on individual response and tolerability, up to a maximum of 120 mg per day. For pediatric patients (7 to 17 years) with generalized anxiety disorder, the usual starting dose is 30 mg once daily for two weeks, then increased to 60 mg once daily. For diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain and chronic musculoskeletal pain in adults, the usual starting dose is 60 mg once daily. For fibromyalgia in adults, the recommended dose is 60 mg once daily. Dulox capsules should be swallowed whole and should not be crushed or chewed. They can be taken with or without food. Follow the physician's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea, dry mouth, constipation, fatigue, somnolence, insomnia, dizziness, headache, and decreased appetite. Other side effects may occur.

Precautions: Exercise caution in patients with a history of mania or hypomania, seizure disorders, hepatic impairment, or renal impairment. Duloxetine may increase blood pressure. Monitor patients with pre-existing hypertension. It should be used with caution in patients with conditions that predispose them to bleeding. Duloxetine can cause or exacerbate urinary retention. Avoid abrupt discontinuation of treatment. Inform your physician if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Duloxetine may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors in some young adults and children. Monitor for any signs of clinical worsening, suicidal thoughts, or unusual changes in behavior, especially during the initial months of therapy or when the dosage is adjusted.

Drug Interactions: Duloxetine should not be used in combination with nonselective monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). At least 14 days should elapse between discontinuation of an MAOI and initiation of duloxetine, and at least 5 days should elapse after stopping duloxetine before starting an MAOI. Caution is advised when used with other serotonergic drugs, CYP1A2 inhibitors (e.g., fluvoxamine), and CYP2D6 inhibitors (e.g., paroxetine, fluoxetine).

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
