Emazid 25

Presentation: Each tablet of Emazid 25 contains 25 mg of empagliflozin.

Indications: Emazid 25 is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is alsoindicated to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease.  

Dosage and Administration:The recommendedstarting dose of empagliflozin is 10 mg once daily, taken in the morning, with or without food. In patients tolerating 10 mg once daily who require additional glycemic control, the dose may be increased to 25 mg once daily. The choice of dose should be individualized based on effectiveness and tolerability. Renal function should be assessed prior to initiation of Emazid and periodically thereafter. Emazid is not recommended in patients with an eGFR less than 45 mL/min/1.73 m². In patients with volume depletion, correction of this condition is recommended prior to initiation of Emazid.

Side Effects: Common side effects associated with Emazid 25 may include urinary tract infections and female genital mycotic infections. Other common side effects reported include increased urination, increased thirst, nausea, and dehydration. Hypoglycemia may occur when Emazid is used in combination with insulin or insulin secretagogues. Ketoacidosis is a rare but serious potential side effect.

Precautions: Emazid 25 is contraindicated in patients with a history of serious hypersensitivity reaction to empagliflozin or any of its ingredients, severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), end-stage renal disease, or dialysis. Before initiating Emazid, assess renal function and volume status. Emazid can cause intravascular volume depletion which may manifest as symptomatic hypotension. Monitor for signs and symptoms of urinary tract infections and genital mycotic infections. Consider risk factors for ketoacidosis before initiating treatment.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
