Emend 

Presentation: Emend, while the specific strength might vary, is available in Bangladesh as capsules containing Aprepitant.

Indications: Emend (Aprepitant) is an antiemetic medication used in combination with other drugs to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by moderately and highly emetogenic cancer chemotherapy. It works by blocking a substance in the brain called neurokinin 1 (NK1) that can trigger nausea and vomiting.

Dosage and Administration: Emend capsules are taken orally. The typical dosage regimen for adults and adolescents (12 years and older) as part of chemotherapy includes 125 mg one hour before the start of chemotherapy on Day 1, followed by 80 mg once daily in the morning on Days 2 and 3. It can be taken with or without food. Always follow the specific instructions provided by your oncologist or healthcare provider.

Side Effects: Common side effects of Emend (Aprepitant) may include tiredness, headache, hiccups, constipation, indigestion, loss of appetite, and fatigue. Less common side effects can include dizziness and other gastrointestinal disturbances. Serious allergic reactions are rare but possible.

Precautions: Emend (Aprepitant) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to aprepitant or any component of the formulation. It should not be used concurrently with pimozide, terfenadine, astemizole, or cisapride. Emend can interact with several other medications, including warfarin and hormonal contraceptives, potentially reducing their effectiveness. Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking.

Use in Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: The safety of Emend during pregnancy has not been fully established, and it should be used only if clearly needed. It is not known if aprepitant passes into breast milk; therefore, breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with Emend.

Storage: Store Emend capsules at room temperature, between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F), in a cool, dry place away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
