Indications: Emijoy is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe depression associated with moderate to severe anxiety. Symptoms likely to respond within the first week of treatment include insomnia, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, agitation, psychic and somatic anxiety, suicidal ideation, and anorexia.
Dosage and Administration: The initial recommended dosage is 3 or 4 tablets daily in divided doses. This may be increased up to 6 tablets daily as required. The larger portion of the total daily dose may be taken at bedtime. Dosage should be individualized based on the severity of symptoms and patient response, as directed by a healthcare professional. Lower dosages are generally recommended for elderly patients.
Side Effects: Frequently reported adverse reactions include drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dizziness, and bloating. Other less common side effects may include vivid dreams, impotence, tremor, confusion, and nasal congestion. Many symptoms common to the depressive state, such as anorexia, fatigue, weakness, restlessness, and lethargy, havebeen reported as side effects.
Precautions: Emijoy is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines or tricyclic antidepressants and should not be given concomitantly with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). A minimum of 14 days should elapse after discontinuing an MAOI before initiating Emijoy. Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures, hyperthyroidism, those taking thyroid medication, and patients with impaired renal or hepatic function. Caution is advised in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease. May worsen depression and increase the risk of suicidality in certain patients, especially during initial treatment. Avoid abrupt discontinuation. Not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation.
