Generic Name: Ondansetron Hydrochloride

Strength: Available in 8 mg tablets.

Indications:

• Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy.
• Prevention and treatment of post-operative nausea and vomiting.
• Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with radiotherapy.

Dosage and Administration:

• Dosage is determined by the doctor based on the cause of nausea and vomiting.
• Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV):
  • Adults: 8 mg orally 1-2 hours before chemotherapy, followed by 8 mg orally 12 hours later.
  • Children (6 months to 18 years): Dosage is weight-based.
• Radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (RINV):
  • Adults: 8 mg orally 1-2 hours before each fraction of radiotherapy.
• Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV):
  • Adults: 16 mg orally one hour before anesthesia or 8 mg orally two hours before anesthesia.
• Can be taken with or without food.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to ondansetron.
• Concomitant use with apomorphine.

Side Effects:

• Common: Headache, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue.
• Less Common: Dizziness, drowsiness.
• Rare: Hypersensitivity reactions, chest pain, arrhythmias.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with heart problems or liver disease.
• May mask progressive ileus or gastric distension.
