Emjard 10 

Presentation: Emjard 10 tablets contain 10 mg of empagliflozin.

Indications: Emjard 10 is indicated for:

• As an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.  
• To reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovasculardisease.
• To reduce the risk of sustained decline in eGFR, end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization for heart failure in adults with chronic kidney disease at risk of progression.  
• To treat heart failure with reduced ejection fraction in adults.

Dosage and Administration:

• The recommended starting dose for glycemic control is 10 mg once daily, taken in the morning, with or without food.
• The dose may be increased to 25 mg once daily for additional glycemic control.
• For reducing the risk of cardiovascular death in type 2 diabetes with established cardiovascular disease, the recommended dose is 10 mg once daily.
• For chronic kidney disease, the recommended dose is 10 mg once daily.
• For heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, the recommended dose is 10 mg once daily.
• The dosage should be individualized based on the patient's condition and tolerability.
• Renal function should be assessed before starting Emjard and periodically thereafter.

Side Effects: The most common side effects associated with Emjard include:

• Urinary tract infections
• Female genital mycotic infections
• Increased urination
• Thirst

Other possible side effects may include dehydration, low blood pressure, and ketoacidosis (a serious condition that requires immediate medical attention).

Precautions:

• Emjard is contraindicated in patients with a history of serious hypersensitivity reactions to empagliflozin, severe renal impairment, end-stage renal disease, orthose on dialysis.
• It is not recommended for the treatment of type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
• Kidney function should be assessed before starting and monitored during treatment.
• Caution should be taken with concomitant use of diuretics, insulin, or insulin secretagogues due to the increased risk of volume depletion and hypoglycemia.
• Alcohol consumption should be avoided or limited while taking Emjard.
• The use of Emjard during pregnancy and breastfeeding is generally not recommended.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
