Empalina 10/5 

Presentation: Empalina 10/5 Tablet, available in Bangladesh, is a combination tablet containing Empagliflozin 10 mg and Linagliptin 5 mg.

Indications: Empalina is indicated in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control when treatment with both empagliflozin and linagliptin is appropriate. It is also indicated to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovasculardisease.

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose of Empalina is one tablet of 10 mg empagliflozin and 5 mg linagliptin once daily, taken in the morning, with or without food.

• The dosage may be increased to one tablet of 25 mg empagliflozin and 5 mg linagliptin once daily if better glycemic control is needed and the 10 mg dose is tolerated.
• Renal function should be assessed before initiating Empalina and periodically thereafter. Empalina is not recommended in patients with an eGFR below 45 mL/min/1.73 m².

Side Effects: Common side effects may include hypoglycemia (when used with insulin or sulfonylureas), urinary tract infections, and genital mycotic infections. Other possible side effects include increased urination, thirst, nausea, and constipation.

Precautions: Empalina is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), end-stage renal disease, or dialysis, as well as in patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to empagliflozin or linagliptin. It is not recommended for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis. Caution should be exercised in patients with moderate renal impairment, heart failure, and those at risk of volume depletion (e.g., elderly patients, patients on diuretics).

Storage: Store Empalina 10/5 tablets below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
