Empamet 12.5/500

Presentation:Tablets containing 12.5 mg of empagliflozin and 500 mg of metformin hydrochloride. 

Indications: Empamet 12.5/500 is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with bothempagliflozin and metformin is appropriate.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Empamet 12.5/500 should be individualized based on the patient's current regimen, effectiveness, and tolerability, not exceeding the maximum recommendeddaily dose of empagliflozin and metformin. It is usually administered orally twice daily with meals.Gradual dose escalation is recommended to reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin.The specific tablet strength (12.5 mg empagliflozin / 500 mg metformin) is one option; other strengths may be available. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully regarding the dose and timing of administration.

Side Effects:Common side effects associated with empagliflozin may include urinary tract infections and genital fungal infections.Common side effects associated with metformin may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort.When used in combination, other possible side effects include hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), especially when used with insulin or sulfonylureas, and lactic acidosis (a rare but serious metabolic complication associated with metformin).Report any persistent or troublesome side effects to your doctor immediately.

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure, a history of urinary tract infections or genital infections, or conditions that can lead to dehydration.
• Empamet 12.5/500 should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. 
• Assess renal function before initiating Empamet 12.5/500 and periodically thereafter. Use is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min). 
• Be aware of the risk of hypoglycemia when Empamet 12.5/500 is used in combination with insulin secretagogues (e.g., sulfonylureas) or insulin.
• There have been reports of ketoacidosis in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes receiving SGLT2 inhibitors (like empagliflozin). 
• Temporary discontinuation of metformin may be necessary before surgical procedures or radiological studies involving iodinated contrast agents.
• Excessive alcohol intake should be avoided while taking Empamet 12.5/500 due to the increased risk of lactic acidosis.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as Empamet 12.5/500 may not be suitable in these situations.
• Be aware of potential drug interactions and inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.  

Storage:  Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture.Keep out of the reach of children.
