Empamet XR 10/1000

Presentation:Extended-release tablets containing 10 mg of empagliflozin and 1000 mg of metformin hydrochloride.

Indications: Empamet XR 10/1000 is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with bothempagliflozin and metformin is appropriate.

Dosage and Administration: The usual recommended dose is one tablet of Empamet XR 10/1000 once daily, taken with a meal, preferably in the evening. The dosage should be individualized based on the patient's current regimen, effectiveness, and tolerability, not exceeding the maximum recommendeddaily dose of empagliflozin and metformin. Gradual dose escalation of metformin is recommended to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not crushed, cut, or chewed.Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Side Effects:Common side effects associated with empagliflozin may include urinary tract infections and genital fungal infections.Common side effects associated with metformin may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort.When used in combination, other possible side effects include hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), especially when used with insulin or sulfonylureas, and lactic acidosis (a rare but serious metabolic complication associated with metformin). Report any persistent or troublesome side effects to your doctor immediately.

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure, a history of urinary tract infections or genital infections, or conditions that can lead to dehydration.
• Empamet XR 10/1000 should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. 
• Assess renal function before initiating Empamet XR 10/1000 and periodically thereafter. Use is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min). 
• Be aware of the risk of hypoglycemia when Empamet XR 10/1000 is used in combination with insulin secretagogues (e.g., sulfonylureas) or insulin. 
• There have been reports of ketoacidosis in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes receiving SGLT2 inhibitors (like empagliflozin). 
• Temporary discontinuation of metformin may be necessary before surgical procedures or radiological studies involving iodinated contrast agents.
• Excessive alcohol intake should be avoided while taking Empamet XR 10/1000 due to the increased risk of lactic acidosis.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as Empamet XR 10/1000 may not be suitable in these situations.
• Be aware of potential drug interactions and inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.  

Storage:  Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture.Keep out of the reach of children.
