Empazin M 12.5/500

Presentation:Tablets containing 12.5 mg empagliflozin and 500 mg metformin hydrochloride.  

Indications:As an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with both empagliflozin andmetformin is appropriate.Empagliflozin isalso indicated to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease.  

Dosage and Administration: Individualized based on current regimen, usually twice daily with meals. Gradual dose escalation of metformin is recommended to minimize gastrointestinal side effects.Maximum daily dose is 25 mg for empagliflozin and 2000 mg for metformin. Contraindicated in patients with eGFR below 45 mL/min/1.73 m².Follow physician's instructions.

Side Effects:Common side effects of empagliflozin include urinary tract infections and female genital mycotic infections.Common side effects of metformin include diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and headache.Lactic acidosis is a rare but serious side effect associated with metformin.

Precautions: Contraindicated in moderate to severe renal impairment, end-stage renal disease, dialysis, metabolic acidosis (including diabetic ketoacidosis), and hypersensitivity to empagliflozin or metformin. Use with caution in patients with risk factors for lactic acidosis (e.g., excessive alcohol use, hepatic impairment, hypoxic states). Assess renal function before initiation and annually thereafter. Monitor for hypotension, especially in volume-depleted patients and those on diuretics.

Storage: Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
