Empazin M 5/1000 

Presentation: Each tablet contains Empagliflozin 5 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 1000 mg. Available in strips.

Indications: Indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with both empagliflozin and metformin is appropriate. Empagliflozin is also indicated to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage should be individualized based on the patient's current regimen, glycemic control, and tolerability, not exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose of empagliflozin 25 mg and metformin 2000 mg. The usual starting dose is one tablet twice daily with meals. Swallow the tablets whole with water; do not crush or chew. Dose escalation should be gradual to reduce gastrointestinal side effects associated with metformin. Assess renal function prior to initiation.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, fatigue, abdominal pain, and increased urination. Female genital mycotic infections and urinary tract infections may also occur.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), acute metabolic acidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and known hypersensitivity to empagliflozin or metformin. Not recommended for use in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. Use with caution in patients with moderate renal impairment, history of hypotension, urinary tract infections, and in elderly patients. May increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used with insulin or sulfonylureas.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
