Indications: Encorate Chrono is indicated for the treatment of various forms of epilepsy, including generalized tonic-clonic seizures, absence seizures, and partial seizures. It is also used for the treatment of manic episodes in bipolar disorder and for the prophylaxis of migraine headaches.
Dosage and Administration: The dosage is individualized and determined by the physician based on the patient's condition, age, weight, and response to treatment.
Encorate Chrono tablets are designed for controlled release and should be swallowed whole; they should not be crushed or chewed. It is generally recommended to take this medication with or after food to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Follow your physician's instructions carefully regarding the dose and timing of administration.
Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, indigestion, diarrhea, constipation, increased or decreased appetite, weight gain, transient hair loss, tremor, and drowsiness. Less common side effects can include ataxia (lack of coordination), headache, dizziness, confusion, and changes in liver function tests. Rare but serious side effects may include severe liver damage, pancreatitis, and blood disorders.
Precautions: Inform your physician if you have a history of liver disease, kidney disease, bleeding disorders, mitochondrial disorders, or a family history of liver dysfunction. Valproate should not be used during pregnancy unless clearly needed, as it can cause serious birth defects. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception. Breastfeeding is generally not recommended while taking valproate.
Valproate may interact with other medications, including other antiepileptic drugs (e.g., phenytoin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine), certain antidepressants, and anticoagulants. Inform your physician about all medications you are currently taking.
This medication may cause drowsiness; caution should be exercised while driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you. Regular monitoring of liver function and blood counts may be required during treatment. Avoid abrupt discontinuation of this medication.
