Epitra 0.5

Presentation: Each tablet contains Clonazepam BP 0.5 mg.

Indications: Epitra (Clonazepam) is indicated for the treatment of certain seizure disorders, including Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (petit mal variant), akinetic and myoclonic seizures, and absence seizures (petit mal) that have not responded to succinimides. It is also effective in the treatment of panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia, and may be used for other anxiety disorders.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Epitra is highly individualized and must be determined by a registered medical practitioner based on the specific condition being treated, the severity of symptoms, and the patient's response. The 0.5 mg strength facilitates starting at a low dose and gradually increasing it to the optimal therapeutic level.

• Seizure Disorders:
  • Adults: The initial dose is typically 0.5 mg three times daily. The dosage may be increased gradually in increments of 0.5 to 1 mg every 3 days until seizures are adequately controlled or side effects become intolerable. The maximum daily dose is usually 20 mg.
  • Children: The initial daily dose is usually 0.01 to 0.03 mg/kg/day, administered in two or three divided doses. The maintenance dose is typically 0.1 to 0.2 mg/kg/day, divided three times daily.
• Panic Disorder: The initial adult dose is 0.25 mg twice daily. After 3 days, the dose may be increased to 0.5 mg twice daily. Further dosage increases may be made in increments of 0.125 to 0.25 mg twice daily every 3 days until panic disorder is controlled or side effects become intolerable. The maximum daily dose is usually 4 mg.

Epitra tablets are administered orally and can be taken with or without food. Abrupt discontinuation should be avoided due to the risk of withdrawal symptoms, including seizures. Dosage adjustments should be made under strict medical supervision.

Side Effects: Common side effects associated with Clonazepam may include drowsiness, ataxia (lack of coordination), fatigue, muscle weakness, and dizziness. Other potential side effects can include confusion, irritability, depression, memory impairment, dysarthria (slurred speech), and decreased libido. These side effects are often dose-dependent and may diminish with continued treatment.

Precautions: Epitra is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines and in patients with acute narrow-angle glaucoma. Caution should be exercised in patients with respiratory depression, severe hepatic impairment, sleep apnea, and a history of drug abuse or dependence. Clonazepam may impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. The use of alcohol or other central nervous system depressants should be avoided due to additive sedative effects. Prolonged use may lead to psychological and physical dependence. The use of Epitra during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be carefully considered due to potential risks to the fetus or infant.

Storage: Store Epitra 0.5 mg tablets in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
