  • Other infections:Osteomyelitis, urethritis, gonorrhoea, syphilis, lymphogranuloma venereum, diphtheria, prostatitis, scarlet fever, whooping cough, intestinal amoebiasis.

Dosage and Administration: Erosa 250 tablets should be taken orally. The dosage depends on the severity of the infection and the patient's age and weight.

  • Adults and children over 8 years:The usual dose is 250-500 mg every six hours for mild to moderate infections, or 500 mg-1 g every 12 hours. In severe infections, the dose may be increased up to 4 g daily or more.
  • Elderly: No special dosage recommendations.
  • Children aged 2 to 8 years:250 mg every six hours; doses may be doubled for severe infections.Dosage may also be based on body weight (30-50 mg/kg/day divided into four equal doses).
  • Infants and Children up to 2 years: Dosage is usually based on body weight (30-50 mg/kg/day in divided doses).

It is usually recommended to take Erythromycin on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before or two hours after meals, as food can interfere with absorption. However, if gastrointestinal upset occurs, it may be taken with food. Complete the full course of treatment as directed by your doctor.

Side Effects: Side effects with Erosa (Erythromycin) are usually mild and related to the gastrointestinal system. Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain or discomfort
  • Diarrhoea
  • Loss of appetite

Less common side effects may include allergic reactions such as urticaria and skin rashes. In rare cases, hepatotoxicity and more severe allergic reactions (including anaphylaxis) may occur.

Precautions: Erosa (Erythromycin) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to erythromycin or any of the excipients. It should also be avoided in patients with existing liver dysfunction or who are currently receiving potentially hepatotoxic drugs.Caution should be exercised in patients with impaired hepatic function, as erythromycin is principally excreted by the liver.

Erythromycin may interact with several other drugs, including theophylline, carbamazepine, digoxin, warfarin, and ergotamine.Concurrent use may lead to increased serum levels and potential toxicity of these drugs. The dose of theophylline should be reduced if symptoms of toxicity develop. An in vitroantagonism exists between erythromycin and bactericidal beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g., penicillin, cephalosporin).

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation:Clinical and laboratory studies have shown no evidence of teratogenicity or toxicity in humans. However, caution should be exercised when prescribing this drug to pregnantpatients and lactating mothers, as erythromycin crosses the placental barrier and is excreted in breast milk.

Storage: Protect from light and moisture by storing below 30°C. Keep the medicine out of children's reach.
