Description:

Escilex 20 ODT is an antidepressant medication that belongs to the class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It works by increasing the levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter in the brain that helps regulate mood. The orally disintegrating tablet form allows it to dissolve quickly on the tongue.

Indications:

• Major depressive disorder

• Panic disorder with or without agoraphobia

• Social anxiety disorder (social phobia)

• Generalized anxiety disorder

• Obsessive-compulsive disorder

Dosage and Administration:

• The usual dosage is 10 mg once daily.

• The dose may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily.

• Escilex 20 ODT can be taken with or without food.

• The tablet should be placed on the tongue and allowed to dissolve.

Contraindications:

• Concomitant use with or within 14 days of discontinuing a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI).

• Known hypersensitivity to escitalopram.

Precautions:

• Use with caution in patients with a history of mania or seizures.

• May impair mental alertness; patients should exercise caution when driving or operating machinery.

• Use with caution in patients with severe kidney or liver disease.

• Pregnancy: Escitalopram should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

• Lactation: Escitalopram is excreted in breast milk.
