Esomeprazole (Premier's) 

Presentation: Each enteric-coated capsule contains Esomeprazole Magnesium Trihydrate INN equivalent to Esomeprazole [The strength is likely 20 mg or 40 mg.

Indications: Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) indicated for the treatment of acid-related disorders, including:

• Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), including healing of erosive esophagitis and maintenance of healing.
• Symptomatic treatment of GERD.
• Risk reduction of NSAID-associated gastric ulcer.
• Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.

Dosage and Administration: Esomeprazole capsules should be swallowed whole and taken at least one hour before a meal. The dosage depends on the condition being treated and the physician's instructions.

• GERD with Erosive Esophagitis: The usual adult dose is 20 mg or 40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. For maintenance of healing, 20 mg once daily is usually recommended.
• Symptomatic GERD: The usual adult dose is 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks.
• Risk Reduction of NSAID-Associated Gastric Ulcer: The usual adult dose is 20 mg once daily.
• Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: The starting dose is usually 40 mg twice daily, adjusted based on acid output.

Side Effects: Esomeprazole is generally well-tolerated. Common side effects may include headache, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, constipation, and flatulence. Less common side effects can include dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia, and skin rash. Long-term use may be associated with an increased risk of bone fractures, low magnesium levels, and vitamin B12 deficiency in some individuals.

Precautions: Esomeprazole is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole or other benzimidazoles. Gastric malignancy should be excluded before initiating therapy. Caution should be exercised in patients with severe liver disease and during pregnancy and breastfeeding; consult your doctor before use. Esomeprazole can interact with several other medications.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Esomeprazole should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is not known whetheresomeprazole is excreted in human milk; therefore, caution should be exercised when administering to breastfeeding women.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
