Esotid HP 

Presentation: Esotid HP is a combination pack containing Esomeprazole, Amoxicillin, and Clarithromycin tablets. Each strip typically contains Esomeprazole 20 mg capsule (usually 1), Amoxicillin 500 mg tablets (usually 2), and Clarithromycin 500 mg tablets (usually 2). It is a product of Opsonin Pharma Ltd. in Bangladesh and is available as a complete treatment pack.

Indications: Esotid HP is indicated for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with active or a history of gastric, duodenal, and gastric ulcers. H. pylori is a bacteria known to be a major cause of these ulcers. By eradicating the bacteria, Esotid HP helps in healing the ulcer and preventing its recurrence.

Dosage and Administration: The usual dosage regimen is one strip (one Esomeprazole capsule, two Amoxicillin tablets, and two Clarithromycin tablets) taken twice daily for 7 to 14 days, or as directed by a physician.

• Take one Esomeprazole 20 mg capsule, one Amoxicillin 500 mg tablet, and one Clarithromycin 500 mg tablet in the morning, preferably before a meal.
• Take the remaining one Amoxicillin 500 mg tablet and one Clarithromycin 500 mg tablet in the evening, preferably before a meal.

Swallow the tablets and capsule whole with water. It is crucial to complete the entire course of treatment as prescribed to ensure the eradication of H. pylori and to prevent the development of antibiotic resistance, even if you start feeling better.

Side Effects:H. pylori eradication therapy with Esotid HP is generally well-tolerated. However, side effects may occur due to the individual components:

• Esomeprazole: Common side effects may include headache, diarrhea, nausea, flatulence, abdominal pain, constipation, and dry mouth.
• Amoxicillin: Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and rash. Allergic reactions, including severe rash, itching, and breathing difficulties, can occur and require immediate medical attention.
• Clarithromycin: Common side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, taste perversion, and abdominal pain.

If you experience any severe or persistent side effects, discontinue use and consult your doctor.

Precautions: Esotid HP is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole, other proton pump inhibitors, penicillins (like amoxicillin), macrolide antibiotics (like clarithromycin), or any of the excipients.

Caution should be exercised in patients with:

• A history of allergic reactions to penicillins, cephalosporins, or macrolide antibiotics.
• Severe renal or hepatic impairment.
• A history of cardiac problems or electrolyte imbalances (clarithromycin can affect heart rhythm in some individuals).

Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, asdrug interactions can occur. Concomitant use with certain drugs like warfarin, digoxin, and some antiretroviral medications may require dose adjustments and close monitoring.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Esotid HP should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits justify the potential risks to the foetus. Amoxicillin and clarithromycin are excreted in breast milk. Esomeprazole may also pass into breast milk. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with Esotid HP due to the potential risk of adverse effects in the infant. Consult your doctor for advice.

Storage: Store Esotid HP in a cool (below 30°C) and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
