Eurocal-D

Presentation: Each tablet contains Calcium Carbonate BP 1250 mg equivalent to 500 mg elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 200 IU (as Cholecalciferol BP). Available in blister packs or plastic containers of various sizes, manufactured by EURO Pharma Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Indications: Eurocal-D is indicated for the treatment and prevention of calcium and Vitamin D deficiency, and is used in conditions such as:

• Osteoporosis
• Rickets
• Osteomalacia
• Tetany
• Hypoparathyroidism
• Increased calcium and Vitamin D requirements during pregnancy and lactation
• Kidney disease and pancreatitis
• During therapy with anti-seizure medications
• Prevention and treatment of calcium/vitamin D deficiency, especially in the housebound and institutionalized elderly.
• As a routine supplement and phosphate binder in chronic renal failure.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults, elderly and children: Usually 1 tablet in the morning and 1 tablet at night, or as directed by a physician.
• It is best taken with or just after a meal to improve absorption.

Side Effects: Orally administered Calcium Carbonate may cause irritation to the gastrointestinal tract and constipation. Hypercalcemia is rare with calcium alone but may occur with large doses in patients with chronic renal failure. Other possible side effects include allergic reactions, irregular heartbeats, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, dry mouth, and drowsiness. Skin rash has occasionally been reported following Vitamin D3 supplementation.

Precautions: Eurocal-D is contraindicated in patients with:

• Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
• Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
• Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation
• Severe renal insufficiency
• Concomitant digoxin therapy (requires careful monitoring of serum calcium levels)

Calcium salts should be used cautiously in patients with renal or cardiac disease and in patients receiving cardiac glycosides. Patients with a history of stone formation should increase their fluid intake.

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
