Indications: Evaglip is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with bothempagliflozin and linagliptin is appropriate.
Dosage and Administration:The recommendeddose is one tablet (25 mg empagliflozin / 5 mg linagliptin) taken orally once daily, preferably in the morning, with or without food. Dosage may be adjusted to one tablet containing 10 mg empagliflozin / 5 mg linagliptin once daily based on individual tolerability and efficacy. Assess renal function prior to initiation and periodically thereafter. Evaglip is not recommended in patients with severe renal impairment, end-stage renal disease, or those on dialysis.
Side Effects: Common side effects may include urinary tract infections, genital mycotic infections, nasopharyngitis, and increased urination. Other possible side effects include nausea and constipation. Serious side effects may include ketoacidosis, acute kidney injury, urosepsis, and necrotizing fasciitis of the perineum (Fournier's gangrene).
Precautions: Evaglip is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to empagliflozin or linagliptin, severe renal impairment, end-stage renal disease, or dialysis. Use with caution in patients with risk factors for ketoacidosis. Assess and correct volume status in patients who may be volume-depleted. Monitor for signs and symptoms of urinary tract infections and genital mycotic infections. Not recommended during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy or during breastfeeding.
