Evania M 500

Presentation:Tablets containing 5 mg empagliflozin and 500 mg metformin hydrochloride.  

Indications:As an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with both empagliflozin and metforminis appropriate.Empagliflozin isalso indicated to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease.  

Dosage and Administration: Individualized based on current regimen. Generally taken twice daily with meals.Gradual dose escalation is recommended to minimize gastrointestinal side effects of metformin.Maximum daily dose is 25 mg for empagliflozin and 2000 mg for metformin.Follow physician's instructions. Contraindicated in patients with eGFR below 45 mL/min/1.73 m².

Side Effects:Common side effects associated with empagliflozin include urinary tract infections and female genital mycotic infections.Common side effects associated with metformin include diarrhea, nausea/vomiting, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, indigestion, asthenia, and headache.Other potential side effects include increased urination, thirst, and taste disturbance. Lactic acidosis is a rare but serious side effect associated with metformin.

Precautions: Contraindicated in moderate to severe renal impairment, end-stage renal disease, dialysis, metabolic acidosis (including diabetic ketoacidosis), and history of serious hypersensitivity to empagliflozin or metformin. Use with caution in patients with risk factors for lactic acidosis (e.g., excessive alcohol use, hepatic impairment, hypoxic states). Assess renal function before initiation and annually thereafter. Monitor for hypotension, especially in volume-depleted patients and those on diuretics.Temporary discontinuation may be needed for radiologic studies with iodinated contrast or surgery.

Storage:Store below 30°C, in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.Keep out of reach of children.
