Exelon Patch 10 is a transdermal patch that releases 9.5 mg of rivastigmine over 24 hours.

Presentation: Each patch delivers 9.5 mg of rivastigmine per 24 hours. 

Indications: Exelon Patch is used to treat mild to moderate dementia in:

• Alzheimer's disease.  
• Parkinson's disease.

It works by increasing the levels of a chemical messenger in the brain called acetylcholine, which is important for memory, thinking, and reasoning. This may help to improve these functions in people with dementia. 

Dosage and Administration:

• Exelon Patch is applied once a day to clean, dry, hairless, intact skin on the upper or lower back, upper arm, or chest.  
• A new patch should be applied every 24 hours.
• The application site should be changed daily to avoid skin irritation.The same site should not be used again for 14 days.  
• The usual starting dose is a lower strength patch, which is then increased by your doctor to the 9.5 mg/24 hours patch after at least 4 weeks if tolerated.  
• Only one patch should be worn at a time.  

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Nausea  
• Vomiting  
• Diarrhea  
• Loss of appetite  
• Stomach pain  
• Headache  
• Dizziness  
• Feeling tired or weak  
• Skin irritation at the application site  

Serious side effects can occur. It is important to contact your doctor immediately if you experience:

• Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration.  
• Slow or irregular heartbeat.  
• Fainting.  
• Black or tarry stools.  
• Vomit that looks like coffee grounds.  
• Seizures.
• Difficulty urinating.  
• Severe skin reaction at the application site.  
• New or worsening tremors or uncontrolled movements.
• Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not there).  

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor if you have any heart problems, stomach ulcers, seizures, asthma, kidney problems, or liver problems.
• Use caution while driving or operating machinery as Exelon Patch may cause dizziness or drowsiness, especially at the start of treatment or when the dose is increased.
• Avoid exposure of the application site to direct heat sources for prolonged periods.  
• Tell your doctor if you experience significant nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, as this can lead to dehydration.

Contraindications:Exelon Patch is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to rivastigmine or other carbamate derivatives.  

Drug Interactions:Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, including over-the-counter medicines and herbal supplements,as Exelon Patch can interact with certain drugs.  

Storage: Store the patches in the original packaging at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Used patches should be folded in half with the sticky sides together and discarded safely.
