Famas Tablet

Presentation: Famas is available as film-coated tablets containing Famotidine USP, typically in strengths of 20 mg and 40 mg. It is a product of Ibn Sina Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh and is usually available in blister packs.

Indications: Famas (Famotidine) is a histamine H2-receptor antagonist indicated for:

• Treatment of gastric ulcer
• Treatment of duodenal ulcer
• Treatment of anastomotic ulcer
• Treatment of acute stress ulcer
• Treatment of reflux esophagitis
• Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
• Treatment of acute gastritis and chronic gastritis in the acute exacerbation stage
• Maintenance therapy for preventing the recurrence of duodenal ulceration

Dosage and Administration: The dosage and duration of treatment with Famas depend on the condition being treated and should be as directed by a physician. The tablets can be taken orally, with or without food.

• Gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, anastomotic ulcer, upper gastro-intestinal haemorrhage, reflux esophagitis and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: The usual adult dose is Famotidine 20 mg twice daily (after breakfast and after supper or before bedtime) or Famotidine 40 mg once daily at bedtime.
• Treatment of acute gastritis, chronic gastritis in acute exacerbation stage: The usual adult dose is Famotidine 20 mg orally twice a day (after breakfast and after supper or before bedtime) or Famotidine 40 mg orally once a day (before bedtime).
• Maintenance therapy for duodenal ulcer: The recommended oral dose is 20 mg once daily at bedtime.

Dosage should be adjusted according to age and symptoms. Most ulcer patients heal within 4-8 weeks.

Side Effects: Side effects of Famas (Famotidine) are generally uncommon and mild. They may include:

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Constipation
• Diarrhoea
• Dry mouth
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Tachycardia (rarely)
• High blood pressure (rarely)
• Drowsiness or insomnia (rarely)
• Eruption (rarely)

Precautions: Famas (Famotidine) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.

Caution should be exercised in elderly patients and in patients with renal failure or hepatic disorders. The drug should be used in the minimum required amount depending upon the condition of the disease.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation:Pregnancy Category B. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. This drug should be usedduring pregnancy only if clearly needed. Caution should be exercised when Famotidine is administered to a nursing womanas it is not known whether Famotidine is secreted into human milk.

Storage: Keep below 30°C temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
