Indications: Famonix (Famotidine) is a histamine H2 receptor antagonist indicated for the treatment and prevention of acid-related disorders, including:

  • Duodenal ulcer
  • Benign gastric ulcer
  • Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), including symptomatic relief and healing of erosive esophagitis
  • Maintenance therapy for healed erosive esophagitis
  • Treatment of heartburn, acid indigestion, and sour stomach
  • Prevention of stress ulcers
  • Management of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome

Dosage and Administration: Famonix tablets should be swallowed whole with water and can be taken with or without food. The dosage depends on the condition being treated and the physician's instructions.

  • Duodenal Ulcer: 20 mg once daily at bedtime or 40 mg once daily at bedtime for 4-8 weeks. For maintenance, 20 mg once daily at bedtime.
  • Benign Gastric Ulcer: 40 mg once daily at bedtime for 6-8 weeks.
  • GERD: 20 mg twice daily for up to 6 weeks for symptomatic relief. For healing of erosive esophagitis, 20 mg twice daily for up to 12 weeks. For maintenance, 20 mg once daily.
  • Heartburn, Acid Indigestion: 10 mg or 20 mg as needed, up to twice daily.
  • Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Starting dose is usually 20 mg every 6 hours, adjusted based on acid secretion.

Side Effects: Famonix (Famotidine) is generally well-tolerated. Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, constipation, and diarrhea. Less common side effects can include nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, dry mouth, and fatigue. Rare side effects may include rash, pruritus, and liver enzyme abnormalities.

Precautions: Famonix (Famotidine) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to famotidine or other H2 receptor antagonists. Caution should be exercised in patients with renal impairment; dosage adjustment may be necessary. When gastric ulcer is suspected, the possibility of gastric malignancy should be excluded before initiating therapy.

Use in Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Famotidine should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It is excreted in human milk; therefore, caution should be exercised when administering to breastfeeding women.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
