Feminor

Presentation: Feminor Tablet contains Norethisterone BP 5 mg as the active ingredient and is presented in blister packs for oral administration.

Indications: Feminor is indicated for the management of various gynecological conditions related to progestogen deficiency or hormonal imbalance, including dysfunctional uterine bleeding, premenstrual syndrome, postponement of menstruation, endometriosis, and menorrhagia. Its progestogenic action helps to regulate the menstrual cycle and address these specific conditions.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Feminor is individualized based on the specific indication and the patient's clinical response. The tablets are for oral use. Typical dosage regimens include:

  • Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding: 1 tablet three times daily for 10 days.
  • Premenstrual Syndrome: 2-3 tablets daily from the 19th to the 26th day of the menstrual cycle.
  • Postponement of Menstruation: 1 tablet three times daily, starting 3 days before the expected period, for a maximum of 10-14 days.
  • Endometriosis: Initial dose of 2 tablets daily, starting on the 5th day of the cycle, may be adjusted based on response.
  • Menorrhagia: 1 tablet 2-3 times daily from the 19th to the 26th day of the menstrual cycle.

Strict adherence to the prescribing physician's instructions is essential.

Side Effects: Commonly reported side effects of Feminor may include changes in menstrual bleeding patterns (spotting, breakthrough bleeding, amenorrhea), fluid retention, weight fluctuations, headache, and nausea. Less frequent adverse effects can include visual disturbances and hypersensitivity reactions. The potential for thromboembolic events with progestogen-only preparations should be considered, particularly in susceptible individuals.

Precautions: Feminor is contraindicated in pregnant and breastfeeding women, individuals with severe hepatic impairment, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, porphyria, and those with a history of jaundice during pregnancy or hypersensitivity to norethisterone. Caution is advised in patients with a history of thromboembolic disorders, severe diabetes with vascular involvement, sickle cell anemia, severe hypertension, epilepsy, migraine, or conditions exacerbated by fluid retention. A thorough medical history should be obtained before initiating treatment.

Storage: Store Feminor tablets below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not use after the stated expiry date.
