Flacort 6
Presentation: Each tablet of Flacort 6 contains 6 mg of deflazacort. Flacort 6 is available in blister packs containing a specific number of tablets. Please refer to the product packaging for exact details.
Indications: Flacort (deflazacort) is a corticosteroid indicated for the treatment of various inflammatory and autoimmune conditions. These include, but are not limited to, Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in patients 2 years of age and older, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, asthma, allergic conditions, and certain nephrotic syndromes. Its potency is roughly equivalent to that of prednisolone.
Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Flacort 6 is individualized and depends on the specific disease being treated, its severity, and the patient's response. It is administered orally.
Flacort 6 tablets should be swallowed whole with a drink of water, with or without food. It is important to follow your physician's instructions precisely regarding dosage and duration of treatment.
Side Effects: Common side effects associated with deflazacort are similar to those of other corticosteroids and may include increased appetite, weight gain, facial rounding (moon face), increased hair growth, acne, and abdominal discomfort. Long-term use can lead to more serious side effects such as osteoporosis, cataracts, glaucoma, increased risk of infections, adrenal suppression, and mood changes. Compared to some other corticosteroids, deflazacort may have a lower propensity for causing weight gain and bone loss, but these risks are still present, especially with prolonged use.
Precautions: Flacort is contraindicated in patients with systemic fungal infections and known hypersensitivity to deflazacort or any of its components. It should be used with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, heart failure, peptic ulcer disease, osteoporosis, glaucoma, psychiatric disorders, and active or latent tuberculosis. Live or live-attenuated vaccines should not be administered to patients receiving immunosuppressive doses of corticosteroids. Prolonged use may lead to adrenal insufficiency, requiring gradual withdrawal. Safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding should be carefully considered.
Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
