Pharmacology
Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with significant anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic properties. It works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which reduces the production of prostaglandins. This action helps to quickly relieve pain and stiffness, reduce swelling, and improve joint movement.

- Oral:
- Adults: The initial dose is 400 mg three times daily. The total daily dose should not exceed 2400 mg.
- Children: Dosage is based on body weight, with a maximum of 30 mg/kg daily in 3-4 divided doses. Doses range from 2.5 ml for infants (3-6 months) to 15 ml for children 10-12 years old.
- Topical Gel:
- Adults: Apply a 4 to 10 cm strip of gel to the affected area and massage until absorbed. This can be repeated up to four times daily, with at least four hours between applications. Do not use on broken skin, cuts, or near eyes.
