Folidel 5 

Presentation: Tablets containing 5 mg of Folic Acid. Available in strips. Manufactured by Delta Pharma Ltd. in Bangladesh.

Ingredients: Folic Acid BP 5 mg.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of folic acid deficiency. This includes:

• Megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency.
• Prevention of neural tube defects in the fetus during pregnancy.
• Folate deficiency due to poor diet, malabsorption syndromes (e.g., sprue), liver disease, or certain medications (e.g., methotrexate).
• Supplementation during pregnancy and lactation.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: The usual dose is 5 mg daily, or as directed by a physician. For the prevention of neural tube defects in women planning pregnancy, a daily dose of 400 mcg (0.4 mg) is generally recommended, starting before conception and continuing through the first trimester.
• Dosage may vary based on the severity of the deficiency and individual needs; follow your doctor's instructions.

Side Effects: Folic acid is generally well-tolerated at recommended doses. High doses may rarely cause:

• Gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, bloating, gas, and loss of appetite.
• Allergic reactions, including skin rash, itching, or difficulty breathing (rare).

Precautions:

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to folic acid or any other ingredients in the tablet.
• Folic acid should not be used to treat undiagnosed anemia, as it may mask the symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency, potentially leading to neurological damage.
• Use with caution in patients with epilepsy, as folic acid may decrease the effectiveness of certain anticonvulsants.
• Inform your doctor if you are taking any other medications, as folic acid can interact with some drugs (e.g., methotrexate, phenytoin, barbiturates).

Storage: Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
