Fossical D

Presentation: Film-coated tablets containing Calcium Carbonate (derived from Coral fossil) USP 1250 mg or 1500 mg equivalent to elemental Calcium 500 mg or 600 mg, and Vitamin D3 BP 200 IU or 400 IU as Cholecalciferol, depending on the specific product available in Bangladesh.

Indications: Indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, rickets, osteomalacia, tetany, and parathyroid disease. Also used as a supplement in cases of inadequate calcium intake in childhood diet, pregnancy and lactation, elderly patients, and as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure. May also be used during therapy with anti-seizure medications and for the prevention and treatment of calcium or vitamin D3 deficiency, especially in housebound and institutionalized elderly patients.

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose is one tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water, preferably with or after a meal to ensure better absorption, or as directed by a physician. The dosage depends on the strength of the tablet and the individual's needs.

Side Effects: Rarely, mild gastrointestinal disturbances such as flatulence, diarrhea, constipation, or upper gastrointestinal discomfort may occur. Hypercalcemia due to prolonged use has been rarely reported.

Precautions: Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component, hypercalcemia resulting from Vitamin D3 overdose, hyperparathyroidism, bone metastases, severe renal insufficiency, severe hypercalciuria, and renal calculi. Use cautiously in patients with mild to moderate renal impairment or mild hypercalciuria, and monitor plasma calcium levels and urinary calcium excretion periodically. Calcium supplements should be taken at a different time from iron supplements and certain antibiotics. May interact with thiazide diuretics, systemic corticosteroids, cardiac glycosides, thyroxine, bisphosphonates, sodium fluoride, quinolone or tetracycline antibiotics. Concomitant ingestion of certain foods like spinach, cereals, milk and its derivatives may reduce the intestinal uptake of calcium.

Storage:Storeat a temperature below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
