Generic Name: Risperidone

Presentation: Each tablet contains Risperidone BP 1 mg.

Indications: Frenia is an atypical antipsychotic medication used to treat:

• Schizophrenia in adults and adolescents 13 years and older.
• Bipolar disorder, for the treatment of manic or mixed episodes in adults and children 10 years and older.
• Irritability associated with autistic disorder in children and adolescents 5 to 16 years of age.

Dosage and Administration: The dosage is individualized by your doctor based on your condition and response to treatment. Some general guidelines:

• Schizophrenia (Adults): The usual starting dose is 2 mg per day, which may be increased gradually to a maintenance dose of 4 to 6 mg per day.
• Schizophrenia (Adolescents 13-17 years): The usual starting dose is 1 mg once or twice daily, which may be gradually increased to a maintenance dose of 2 to 6 mg per day.
• Bipolar Mania (Adults): The usual starting dose is 2 to 3 mg once daily. The dose may be adjusted to a target dose of 1 to 6 mg per day.
• Bipolar Mania (Children and Adolescents 10-17 years): The usual starting dose is 0.5 mg once or twice daily, which may be gradually increased to a target dose of 1 to 2.5 mg per day.
• Irritability Associated with Autistic Disorder (Children and Adolescents 5-16 years): The starting dose is usually 0.25 mg per day in patients weighing less than 20 kg and 0.5 mg per day in patients weighing 20 kg or more. The dose may be gradually increased to a maintenance dose based on weight.

Frenia tablets can be taken with or without food. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Drowsiness
• Dizziness
• Blurred vision
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Constipation
• Increased appetite
• Weight gain
• Restlessness
• Tremors
• Muscle stiffness
• Difficulty with movement

Less common but potentially serious side effects can occur. It is important to contact your doctor immediately if you experience any unusual or severe side effects.

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, including heart problems, diabetes, high cholesterol, seizures, or a history of suicidal thoughts.
• Risperidone may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors in young adults. Monitor for any changes in mood or behavior.
• Use caution when driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you, as it may cause drowsiness or dizziness.
• Avoid alcohol while taking Frenia as it can worsen side effects.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Contraindications: Frenia is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to risperidone or paliperidone.
