Fungidal (Miconazole Nitrate)

Fungidal is an effective antifungal agent available as an Oral Gel for internal infections and a Cream for skin applications. It works by creating holes in the fungal cell membrane, causing the cell's contents to leak out and the fungus to die.

📋 Indications

• Oral Gel: Treats fungal infections of the mouth (thrush), throat, and gastrointestinal tract. It also addresses certain gram-positive bacterial super-infections.

• Cream: Treats various skin infections, including Athlete’s foot, ringworm, jock itch, sweat rashes (intertrigo), and fungal nail/skin discoloration (tinea versicolor). It provides rapid relief from the itching that often accompanies these infections.

🥄 Dosage & Administration

Miconazole Oral Gel

• Infants (4–24 months): 1.25 ml (1/4 measuring spoon) applied 4 times daily after meals.

• Adults & Children (2+ years): 2.5 ml (1/2 measuring spoon) applied 4 times daily after meals.

• Tip: For mouth sores, apply the gel directly with a clean finger and keep it in contact with the area as long as possible. If you wear dentures, remove them at night and brush them with the gel.

Miconazole Cream

• General Skin Infections: Apply to the affected area twice daily (morning and evening).

• Tinea Versicolor: Apply once daily.

• Duration: Continue treatment for 10 days after all symptoms disappear to prevent the infection from returning.

⚠️ Safety & Interactions

• Choking Hazard: In infants and young children, be careful to apply the gel to the front of the mouth to ensure it does not obstruct the throat.

• Drug Interactions: 🛑 Avoid using with Terfenadine, Astemizole, or Cisapride. It may also increase the effects of Blood Thinners (Warfarin) and Phenytoin, requiring close medical monitoring.

• Side Effects: Occasionally causes nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea (with long-term use). Rarely, allergic reactions may occur.

• Pregnancy: Use only if the benefits outweigh the risks; consult your doctor.

• Lactation: Exercise caution and consult a healthcare professional, as it is unknown if it is excreted in human milk.
