Gabastar 100

Presentation: Each capsule contains Gabapentin BP 100 mg. Capsules are typically supplied in blister packs or strips.

Indications: Gabastar is indicated for:

• Management of neuropathic pain.
• Adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures with and without secondary generalization in adults and children aged 6 years and above. 
• Monotherapy in the treatment of partial seizures with and without secondary generalization in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and above.  

Gabastar may also be used for other conditions such as postherpetic neuralgia and restless legs syndrome as determined by a physician.

Dosage and Administration: Dosage is individualized and should be titrated by the physician based on patient response and tolerability. Gabastar capsules should be swallowed whole with water and can be taken with or without food. The maximum time interval between doses should not exceed 12 hours.

• Neuropathic Pain (Adults): The starting dose is usually 300 mg on Day 1, 300 mg twice daily on Day 2, and 300 mg three times daily on Day 3. The dose can then be further increased as needed for pain relief to a maximum of 1800 mg per day in three divided doses.
• Partial Seizures (Adults and Adolescents 12 years and above): The effective dose ranges from 900 to 3600 mg per day, administered in three divided doses. The starting dose is 300 mg three times a day, and the dose may be increased gradually.
• Partial Seizures (Children aged 6-12 years): The starting dose ranges from 10-15 mg/kg/day in three divided doses, and the effective dose is reached by upward titration over approximately three days, to 25-35 mg/kg/day in three divided doses.

Follow the physician's instructions carefully. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with impaired renal function.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, ataxia (lack of coordination), fatigue, and peripheral edema (swelling of extremities). Other possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, blurred vision, and weight gain.

Precautions: Exercise caution in patients with kidney disease. Gabapentin may cause drowsiness and dizziness, potentially impairing the ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid alcohol consumption while taking this medication as it can increase drowsiness. Inform your physician if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Do not stop taking Gabastar suddenly without consulting your doctor, as it may increase the frequency of seizures. Monitor for any changes in mood or behavior, including suicidal thoughts.

Storage: Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
