Gabatin 300

Presentation: Each capsule contains 300 mg of Gabapentin.

Indications: Gabatin 300 is indicated for:

• Management of postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain following shingles) in adults.
• As adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures with and without secondary generalization in adults and children 3 years and older.

Dosage and Administration:

• Dosage must be individualized by the treating physician.
• Postherpetic Neuralgia: The usual starting dose is 300 mg on day 1, 300 mg twice a day on day 2, and 300 mg three times a day on day 3. The dose can then be titrated up as needed for pain relief, to a maximum of 1800 mg per day in divided doses (e.g., three times a day).
• Partial Seizures:
  • Adults and Children over 12 years of age: The starting dose is typically 300 mg three times a day. The dose can be increased gradually to a maximum of 3600 mg per day in divided doses.
  • Children 3-12 years of age: The starting dose ranges from 10-15 mg/kg/day in divided doses (three times a day). The maintenance dose is reached by upward titration over approximately 3 days and is usually in the range of 25-35 mg/kg/day in divided doses.

It can be taken with or without food.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include:

• Drowsiness
• Dizziness
• Ataxia (lack of coordination)
• Fatigue
• Nystagmus (rapid, involuntary eye movements)
• Tremor
• Diplopia (double vision)
• Peripheral edema (swelling of the extremities)
• Weight gain

Less common side effects may include:

• Memory impairment
• Difficulty concentrating
• Mood changes
• Dry mouth
• Blurred vision
• Gastrointestinal disturbances

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, as the dosage may need to be adjusted.
• Use with caution in patients with a history of psychiatric disorders.
• Gabatin 300 may cause drowsiness and dizziness, so caution should be exercised while driving or operating machinery.
• Avoid abrupt discontinuation of the medication, as it may increase the frequency of seizures. The dosage should be tapered gradually under medical supervision.
• The safety of Gabatin 300 during pregnancy has not been fully established. It should only be used if the potential benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus. Consult your doctor before use.
• Gabapentin passes into breast milk. Breastfeeding is not recommended while taking Gabatin 300.

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
