Galvus 50

Presentation:Each tablet contains 50 mg of vildagliptin.

Indications: Galvus is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus:  

• As monotherapyin patients in whom metformin is inappropriate due to contraindications or intolerance.  
• In combination with other medicinal products for the treatment of diabetes, including insulin, when these do not provide adequateglycemic control.  

Dosage and Administration: The recommended dose of Galvus is 50 mg once or twice daily.

• As monotherapy, or in combination with metformin, thiazolidinedione, or insulin (with or without metformin): 50 mg once daily in the morning or 50 mg twice daily (morning and evening).
• In dual combination with a sulfonylurea: 50 mg once daily administered in the morning. In this patient population, vildagliptin 100 mg daily was no more effective than vildagliptin 50 mg once daily.  

Galvus can be taken with or without food.If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered; a double dose should not be taken on the same day. Dosage adjustments may be needed in patients with renal impairment.

Side Effects:Common side effects may include headache, tremor, dizziness, and nausea.Hypoglycemia may occur when Galvus is used in combination with sulfonylureas or insulin.

Precautions: Galvus is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to vildagliptin or any of the excipients. It should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.Caution should be exercised in patients with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis and in patients with hepatic impairment.

Storage:Store below 30°C, protected from moisture.Keep out of reach of children.
