Gavirad 200ml syrup contains a combination of sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, and calcium carbonate. It is used to treat conditions associated with gastric reflux, such as:

• Heartburn 
• Indigestion 
• Flatulence linked with gastric reflux 
• Pregnancy-related heartburn 
• Epigastric and retrosternal distress due to gastric reflux 

Gavirad works by forming a gel-like layer on top of the stomach contents, which helps to prevent stomach acid from flowing back up into the esophagus (food pipe).

Dosage:

• Adults and children over 12 years:10-20 ml after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day. 
• Children 6-12 years: 5-10 ml after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day.
• Children under 6 years: Not recommended.

Possible side effects:

• Constipation
• Flatulence
• Stomach cramps
• Belching
• Allergic reactions (such as urticaria, bronchospasm, or anaphylactic reactions) 
• In large quantities, it may lead to alkalosis, hypercalcemia, acid rebound, milk-alkali syndrome.

Precautions:

• Avoid taking Gavirad within 2 hours of other medications, as it can affect their absorption. 
• Consult your doctor before taking Gavirad if you have kidney disease, hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis, or are on a sodium-restricted diet.
• Care should be taken when treating children under 12 years of age, and it's generally not recommended without medical advice.
• If symptoms persist for more than 7 days, consult your doctor.
