Indications: Gemer 1 is a combination oral antidiabetic medicine used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It is indicated when diet and exercise alone or treatment with single agents (glimepiride or metformin) do not result in adequate glycemic control. Glimepiride helps to lower blood glucose by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas, while metformin reduces glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity.  

Dosage and Administration: The dosage of Gemer 1 is individualized and should be determined by a physician based on the patient's blood glucose levels and response to treatment. It is administered orally, usually once daily with the first main meal (preferably breakfast). The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and should not be crushed or chewed. The starting dose is usually one tablet daily, and the dosage may be adjusted gradually based on blood glucose monitoring. The maximum recommended daily dose of glimepiride is 8 mg and metformin is 2000 mg.

Side Effects: Common side effects of Gemer 1 may include hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, headache, and metallic taste. Symptoms of hypoglycemia can include sweating, dizziness, tremor, confusion, and hunger. Less common but potentially serious side effects may include lactic acidosis (a buildup of lactic acid in the blood, more associated with metformin), and allergic reactions.

Precautions: Gemer 1 is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe kidney or liver disease, and known hypersensitivity to glimepiride, metformin, or other sulfonylureas. It should be used with caution in elderly or debilitated patients and in patients with a history of heart disease. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis. Kidney function should be assessed before starting and regularly during treatment. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Storage: Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
