Gliclid 60 MR

Presentation: Modified-release tablets containing 60 mg of gliclazide.

Indications: Gliclid 60 MR is an oral antidiabetic drug belonging to the sulfonylurea class. It is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and weight reduction alone are not sufficient to achieve adequate glycemic control. It works by stimulating the release of insulin from the beta cells of the pancreas and may also have effects on peripheral tissues.

Dosage and Administration: The usual starting dose of Gliclid 60 MR is 30 mg once daily. The dose may be adjusted gradually by your doctor based on your blood glucose response, usually at intervals of at least two weeks. The daily dose may range from 30 mg to a maximum of 120 mg, taken orally once daily at breakfast time. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and should not be crushed or chewed. It is important to eat regularly after taking this medication. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully regarding the dose and timing of administration.

Side Effects: The most common side effect of gliclazide is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Symptoms of hypoglycemia may include sweating, shakiness, confusion, dizziness, hunger, and rapid heartbeat. Other possible side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea and indigestion, and allergic skin reactions. Less common but potentially serious side effects may occur. Report any persistent or troublesome side effects to your doctor immediately.

Precautions:

• Inform your doctor about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially kidney disease, liver disease, or heart problems. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with impaired kidney or liver function.
• Gliclid 60 MR should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. 
• Caution is advised when using Gliclid 60 MR in combination with other antidiabetic medications, especially insulin, due to the increased risk of hypoglycemia. Dose adjustments of concomitant insulin or other antidiabetic drugs may be necessary.
• Be aware of factors that may increase the risk of hypoglycemia, such as skipping meals, strenuous exercise, or alcohol consumption.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, as Gliclid 60 MR is contraindicated in pregnant women and is not recommended during breastfeeding. 
• Be aware of potential drug interactions and inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.
• Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels is essential during treatment with Gliclid 60 MR.  

Storage: Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
