Presentation:Glimicron MR 60 is presented as modified-release tablets, each containing 60mg of gliclazide.
Indications:Glimicron MR (gliclazide) is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and weight reductionalone have not been adequate in controlling blood glucose levels. It works by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas and reducing glucose production in the liver.
Dosage and Administration:The dosage of Glimicron MR 60 is determined by the physician based on individual blood glucose levels. The usual starting dose is typically one tablet (60mg) once daily, taken orally at breakfast time. The dose may be adjusted gradually based on the patient's response, with the maximum recommended daily dose usually being two tablets (120mg) taken as a single dose.
The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and should not be crushed or chewed. It is important to eat regular meals while taking this medication.
Side Effects: The most common side effect of gliclazide is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), the symptoms of which can include sweating, paleness, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, hunger, headache, drowsiness, and confusion. Less common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, as well as skin reactions like rash and itching. Rarely, more serious side effects such as changes in blood cell counts or liver problems can occur.
Patients should be aware of the symptoms of hypoglycemia and know how to manage them.
Precautions:Glimicron MR (gliclazide) is contraindicated in patients with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe kidney or liver disease, and known hypersensitivity to gliclazide or other sulfonylureas. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Caution should be exercised in patients with impaired kidney or liver function and in elderly or debilitated patients who may be more susceptible to hypoglycemia. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it can unpredictably affect blood glucose control.Inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as there may be interactions.
Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels is essential during treatment with Glimicron MR.
Storage:Store Glimicron MR 60 tablets below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light.Keep out of reach of children.
