Glipatab 10

Presentation: Glipatab 10 tablets contain 10 mg of empagliflozin.

Indications: Glipatab 10 is indicated for:

  • As an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • To reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovasculardisease.

Dosage and Administration:

  • The recommendeddose of Glipatab is 10 mg once daily, taken in the morning, with or without food.
  • In patients tolerating empagliflozinwho require additional glycemic control, the dose may be increased to 25 mg once daily.
  • In patients with volume depletion, correcting this condition prior to initiation of empagliflozin is recommended.

Side Effects:The most common adverse reactions associatedwith Glipatab are:

  • Urinary tract infections
  • Female genital mycotic infections

Other common side effects include:

  • Dehydration
  • Hypotension (low blood pressure)
  • Weakness

  • Increased thirst

Precautions:

  • Glipatab is contraindicated in patients with a history of serious hypersensitivity reaction to empagliflozin or any of its ingredients, severe renal impairment, end-stage renal disease, orthose on dialysis.
  • Assessment of renal function is recommended prior to initiation of Glipatab and periodically thereafter.
  • Glipatab should not be initiated in patients with an eGFR less than 45 mL/min/1.73 m².
  • Co-administration with diuretics may increase urine volume.
  • Co-administration with insulin or insulin secretagogues may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
  • Monitoring glycemic control with urine glucose tests is not recommended as SGLT2 inhibitors increase urinary glucose excretion, leading to positive results. Alternative methods should be used.
  • Monitoring glycemic control with 1,5-anhydroglucitol (1,5-AG) assay is not recommended as measurements of 1,5-AG are unreliable in patients taking SGLT2 inhibitors. Alternative methods should be used.
  • The use of Glipatab during pregnancy is not recommended. It is also not recommended during breastfeeding.
  • Alcohol consumption is not recommended during treatment with Glipatab due to the increased risk of altered blood sugar levels.
